Hot, hot, hot – and I don’t just mean the weather! Our
team have been busier than ever handling a wide range of
exciting tasks.
So as time is pressing, I’ll get right on with it this
month. I’ve put together 7 ways to help improve your website’s
performance on search engines like Google which I’m sure will
be of interest. They won’t take you long to introduce and
should bring rewards for your hard work.
“Why’s My Site Not Top
of Google?” We’re often asked this question and
while there are many different factors that influence the
performance of your site, here are seven quick ways to help
your site creep up the search engines.
1. Update
Your Keywords The trends around website keywords change
regularly so spend a few minutes looking at the keywords
you're currently targeting and consider how you can improve
this – and don’t forget to see what your competition are doing
either. While you’re at it, and even better still, add new
pages to focus some new, relevant content on.
2. Google Maps Listings This won’t take much more
that ten minutes and is really useful. Every website or
business owner should have a listing on Google Maps – so by
claiming and verifying your listing, you'll be letting Google
know that you are a competitor in your local market.
3. Re-Optimise Your Homepage Once you’ve looked
at your keywords, make sure the target term(s) on your home
page are the best term(s) for your site. Your homepage is
normally more powerful than any other pages, so choose
relevant and popular term(s).
4. Update Your Pages Is your site bang up to
date? Have your products, services or prices changed recently?
Take time to update your site content to make sure it’s
relevant and up to date.
5. Contact Details on Every Page You’d be
surprised how few sites we see actually following this
golden rule. Firstly, recent research suggests that up to 50%
of website visits are still to get a company’s phone number or
address but also, as search is becoming much more
location-based, having your details on every page helps
improve your rankings in location-based searches.
6. Update Your Sitemap It’s a great idea to have
a sitemap on your site but more importantly, you must keep it
up to date. Let search engines know what pages you have on
your site and even what’s on them too.
7. Get Twittering Finally, as all the world's
Twittering – make sure you’re part of the revolution. It’s a
simple, fun way to drive more traffic to your site.
